Rules for 2010
Section 1 Safety:
1.
Driver must come equipped with long pants and a
long sleeve shirt or racing coat.
2.
Driver must have a helmet with a visor or goggles.
A neck brace is advised.
3. Mowers must be equipped with shut off switch that activates if the driver is
dislodged from seat. Stock mowers that did not come with a switch are exempt.
4.
Mowers must not have exposed sharp edges or rough
metal that could prove hazardous to other drivers or spectators. All parts must be secure.
5.
All positively charged terminals must be insulated
with a cover or heavily taped. Battery must be well secured.
6.
All racers must have a fire extinguisher at their
pit.
7.
All drivers are allowed one pit crew person for
assistance during caution. Pit crew person only allowed to enter the track after the race is in control and under caution.
DO NOT RUN ON THE TRACK WHILE RACE IS UNDER WAY!!
8.
The driver is responsible for their pit crew members
and guests. No Alcohol, Illegal Drugs. No Profanity is allowed. Misconduct will lead to point loss of present and previous
race.
9.
Intentional bumping, rough driving, or other dangerous
behavior will not be tolerated: First offense will be warned with a black flag, Second offense will be expulsion from the
race and a loss of points for the day.
10.
The entry and exit of the race track will be kept
clear at all times. Only the drivers in action and designated officials are all allowed at the entry and exit of the track.
11.
Drivers must be 16 years of age or older (Stock
Class age 10 to 15).
12. All participants under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian sign a
waiver.
13. All participants must sign a waiver prior to any race activities. Holding the
people and organizations promoting the race not accountable in the event of injury regardless of negligence or other factors
on the part of the promoters.
14. All hoods and other body panels are to be firmly secured.
15.
All mowers must have a working clutch
and brake. (Brakes will be randomly checked.)
16.
All glass must be removed or taped up. (Stock class
exempt.)
17. Pit Speed- All mowers being driven in the pits are not to
exceed 3 MPH. Pit areas will be patrolled. Infractions will result in point loss of a loss of opportunity to race that night.
Section 2 General Information
1.
There will not be any Show Up Points
this year.
2.
Inspection line starts at 12:00 to 3:00 pm on race
day. (If you are late driver will start at the rear of the field)
3. All drivers must attend drivers meeting.
4.
The driver is responsible for knowing when his or
her race is scheduled and in what position they start in.
5.
Mower numbers are to be 4” high and placed
on both sides of the mowers hood. Mowers without hoods should have the number placed in a highly visible place. All Numbers
must be in a location so the spotters and officials can clearly recognize them.
6.
If the mower leaves the race track
during the race due to a problem with the mower, the mower will be disqualified from the race. (The driver can not get on
another mower to finish the race.)
7.
Mowers are only allowed one 2 minute break down
time during a race. (Time starts when the caution flag is out and the race is under control).
8.
Each mower is only allowed to race in the race it
was built for. (Legends and Powder Puff are exempt).
9.
Mower tires are to be lawn mower
treaded turf tire only. Tires cannot be equipped with chains, snow hog. AG type or kart tires are not allowed.
10.
All racing mower tires are to be equipped with tubes.
Kids Stock Class is exempt.
11. All modified classes (including 5 hp class) may use any carburetors.
All stock, stock Flathead, Super Stock classes must use stock only carburetor.
12.
All racing mowers must use a vertical shaft engine.
Open Class exempt. All engines must be four stroke, gasoline powered in all classes. No rotary engines allowed.
13.
Centrifugal Clutches are allowed in all classes.
14.
All racing mower engines must have been manufactured
for lawn mowing equipment.
15. Fuel- All racing mowers fuel must be gasoline, any octane allowed. Methanol,
Nitro Methane, Oxidizers, Nitrous Oxide, or any additives are not allowed. All questionable fuel is subject to random inspection.
16.
All exposed chains or sprockets are to be covered
with a guard.
17. All exhaust systems must terminate away from the drivers and competitors. If
in close contact with the driver it must be shielded against possible burns.
18.
All mower seats must be lawn mower seats with the
bottom of the seat pan no lower than the top of the rear tire.
19.
All mower seats must be in the center line of the
mower and must have a driver support on the right side of the seat. All seats are subject to the inspector’s approval.
20.
All mowers are not allowed to have any type of forced
air induction.
21. Tube frames are allowed in all modified classes. Stock, Stock Flathead, Super
Stock must use factory frames. (See class specific rules for more details).
22.
All mower (frame or deck) must be
a minimum of 2” ground clearance.
23.
Mower wheels must be steel for all stock classes.
Modified Classes have the option of steel or aluminum wheels.
24.
Mower wheels must be the same size
on both sides of either axle. 5” minimum and 8” maximum on the front and 5” minimum and 10” maximum
on the rear.
25. All mowers must have a rear bumper and it must be in the center of the rear
tires.
26. Rear bumpers are not to extend more than 12” behind the rear tire, and
not to extend past the width of the rear tires.
27.
Front tires may be protected with a front bumper.
If used, bumper must not extend past the front tires when wheels are turned.
28.
Bottom of bumper must be 4” from the ground
and must not be more that 5” in front of the front tire. All bumpers subject to inspector’s approval (no cattle
guards).
29. All mowers must have a mowing deck, deck may be simulated. (Stock classes see
class specific rules for further detail).
30.
All mowers must have reverse.
31.
All mowers must not exceed 42” outside of
sidewall to outside of sidewall of tires.
32.
All mowers must not exceed 60” center of the
front spindle to center of rear axle.
33.
All mowers must have an on-board starting system.
5 HP is exempt.
34. All racing mowers are limited to one engine per mower with a maximum of 2 cylinders.
35.
Anyone involved in a caution. Must go to the rear
of the field.
36. Any racer that causes a caution must go to the rear of the field.
37.
If you miss your scheduled race, you cannot race
in a different race.
38. During Driver sign- in, driver is only allowed to sign in his or her own name.
39.
Anyone who wants to make complaint must do so to
the chairperson of the responsible committee (rules, tech, etc), in writing. The issue in question will be taken to the board
and advisory committees for a decision. The ruling will be announced at the following race, during the drivers meeting.
40.
The tech team may impound any mower that is being
protested. Any mower that has been impounded will be inspected at the conclusion of the night’s activities. All protest
requires a $ 200 fee, if the protested driver is found legal, the driver receives $100 and the AMRA receives the remaining
$100. If the driver is found illegal, the protester receives their money back.
41.
The AMRA tech team has full discretion to inspect
any mower that seems questionable.
42.
All mower must have belt keeper
/ Guards.
Stock Class
1.
All mowers must be as delivered from factory.
2.
All belts (drive, mowing deck) must be in place
and working. (Mowing deck must be able to be engaged)
3.
Remove Blades
4.
Mowers are allowed a maximum speed of 35 seconds
around the track. Any mowers exceeding this speed must use a lower gear to be able to complete.
5.
Mowing deck must have all deck bearings in place
and deck must be supported in a factory fashion.
6.
Rear wheels must not exceed 10”
To simplify the above rules: All kid’s mowers must be a genuine lawnmower that could mow the
yard, if the blades were installed.
Any tampering with stock mower could
result in your child not getting to race!
JR Stock Class
Age 13 to
16
This mower can only race in the
class it is built for.
Must buy
pulley from AMRA
Belt can only be a type A ½ .
Engine:
1.
Engine must be a Briggs & Stratton
single cylinder vertical stock flathead engine.
2.
Engine must be an 11 hp to 13.5
hp engine only.
3.
Governor may be unhooked or removed
from engine.
4.
Carburetor must be stock, without
any modifications. Choke flap must be in and in the stock location.
5.
Engine cannot
be ported or polished.
6.
Engine must have a stock cam and
any modifications to the camshaft are illegal.
7.
Stator may be removed from engine,
but flywheel must have magnets installed.
8.
Flywheel must have a stock flywheel
key, and must be in stock location. (No Advanced key)
9.
Ignition timing must be in stock
location.
10. Engine must be pre-inspected and sealed before you can race.
Frame:
1.
Must use 100% of the original lawnmower
frame, enhancements (lengthen, frame bracing) subject to inspection for safety (can't have tube frame).
2.
Front axle and/or steering may be
substituted, reinforced, or fabricated. Modifications are subject t inspection for safety.
3.
Front and rear axle may be offset
if desired.
4.
Throttle may be moved to desired
location of the driver.
5.
Front axle must be locked. No pivoting
allowed.
Driveline:
1.
Rear axle may be locked,
2.
Aftermarket brakes may be installed.
3.
Must use a peerless 600 rear-end,
a gearing ratio of 1 to 1, (pulleys will be 5 and 5) and 16 x 7.5/8” rim (rear tires only).
1.
All drivers must take a driver's
test before the board and rules committee.
- Must be able to driver the track
with and without other mowers on it, and be able to maintain control of the mower.
- Drivers must know all the flag colors, and their meaning.
2.
If at any time the board members
feel that driver is not ready for this class; then the driver will remain in the stock class until they are ready to move
up.
3. All mowers will be impounded until time to race.
4.
Drivers that show poor attitudes
and sportsmanship; will be blacked flagged and asked to exit off the track. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Super Stock
Engine:
1.
Engine must be a flathead engine.
2.
11 HP head on a 12 HP or 13.5 engines is legal,
but cannot mill or machine the head in any way. Head must be in stock form.
3.
Engine may be bored .020 than stock and must use
a factory replacement piston.
4.
Governor may be removed from engine.
5.
Carburetor must be stock, without any modifications.
Carburetor must have choke flap.
6.
Engine must not be ported or polished.
7.
Engine must have a stock cam. Any modifications
to the cam are illegal.
8. Stator may be removed from engine but flywheel must have magnets installed.
9.
Flywheel must have flywheel key installed and ignition
timing in stock location.
10. Engine must be pre-inspected and sealed before allowed to race.
Frame:
1.
Must use 100% of the original frame. Cannot lengthen
frame
2.
Must lock front axle. Axle may not pivot.
3.
Front axle must be in stock location and cannot
be offset.
4. Throttle may be moved to driver desired location.
5.
Mower must remain stock width.
Driveline:
1.
Rear axle cannot be locked
2.
Aftermarket brake may be installed
3.
Pulleys may be changed from stock sizes

This applies for all Classes
All “GRAY AREAS” of the
rules are subject to prior inspection from the tech team before considered legal for competition. For other rules that apply
to racing mowers, see General Information section of this rule book. All rules are for safety of competition reasons. The
officials and tech inspectors work hard to make the races as fair and competitive as possible. Please respect
them as well as your fellow drivers. If you have any questions about these rules or suggestions for new rule, please speck
with an official to voice your opinion. We are continuing to strive to make lawn mower racing as fun and enjoyable as possible.
Flags
Green: The race is until way
Yellow: Caution, No Passing on the
track. Drivers form a single line behind the leader and follow the starter's directions
Red: The race is stopped- mowers must stop immediately.
Black: Generally for a driving infraction
or equipment violation. Driver must complete lap and pull into the pits. A furled Black Flag means the driver must clean up
his/her act or receive a full black flag.
White and Green: these two flags together signifies the halfway point.
Blue with yellow stripe: Driver needs to move over to allow faster
mowers passing room.
White: One lap to go
